Strategically we decided to create new elements within the space, with unique features that allows to surprise, resulting in the preservation of the existing elements. Also a new space hierarchy was designed, through the manipulation of the ceiling heights, the use of specific colors, and the creation of permeable surfaces with motives that are replied in different locations – the screen, the ceiling and the wine shelf -, allowing by this the possibility of having unique interior environments according with the time of the day and the purpose of the meal. The lightning was rethought and adjusted to the new concept.
For the restaurant decoration new principles where taken in order to create a brand new identity, more up-to-date but also that might reflect the culture and the traditions, or we won’t be talking about a Portuguese Cuisine Restaurant!
Handcrafted clay and cork lamps from Algarve were acquired, and popular portuguese food related proverbs where placed in the walls, reminding the old plates in the rural kitchen houses or even the sayings painted on tiles adorning the walls of traditional Portuguese taverns.
The wine has a role in the restaurant space. In addition to displaying the wines available, we can learn to match the type of food with the most appropriate wine.
Those who will enter might feel a new and contemporary reinterpretation of what means to be a Portuguese Restaurant.
Kalorias Restaurant
The starting point was a restaurant inside a Health Club that has become obsolete and lost its charisma during the years. We were asked to design a new concept for this space, however maintaining as possible the existing structures, having always in mind a reduced but sufficient budget.
