Casa Chikly

This is a Portuguese house, indeed! Our proposal aimed to capture a holiday home’s essential characteristics and create an ambience that reflects the traditional Portuguese dwellings found on the Alentejo coast. The outcome is a house with a distinct style, showcasing an intriguing blend of modernity and tradition. Our goal for this project was to design a compact house that would be housed within a single volume – a box-like structure with a sloping roof. This design pays homage to the traditional houses in the country’s southern regions, particularly in the Alentejo and Algarve areas. However, to incorporate a shading element into the facade and to work within the allowed building area, we added another modern volume to what we consider to be the main facade of the house, facing southeast. The interplay between these two volumes defines the character of the house. It strikes a balance between modern elements and a main volume that is, in a way, more traditional.

The swimming pool is located on the right side of the house , in front there are steps in white and brown. The balcony is in front of the living room.

From this perspective, you can see the path adjacent to the house that connects the pool to the orange porch. The wall with a checkered cut is highlighted.
The gray terrace is opposite the living room and contains a hallway with a chess cutted wall that leads to a small orange porch in front of the master bedroom.
This elevation is highlighted by the orange porch below, in front of the rooms, and by the small round window, already on the upper floor.
The terrace, in front of the living room, faces the pool. From it follows a white-walled corridor in which one is cut in a checkerboard shape.
From this perspective, the lateral access openings to the interior of the house are visible, as well as the entrance to the house and the chimney.
In this perspective, the north elevation and the main elevation are visible. The brown walkway and the blue door are highlighted.
White walls and soft but modern colors describe the calm atmosphere of this room. The clay-colored tiled floor runs along this floor of the house.
The living room is presented with a light gray sofa, brown and white furniture and a light brown staircase against the wall. The latter leads to the top floor.
From this perspective, the modern and light design of the stairs, as well as the kitchen and dining room, can be seen. White is the most used color.
