The solution we arrived at led to an unconventional inverted layout, with the main entrance to the property located at the highest point of the land. This elevated plateau at the entrance provides an authentic viewpoint over the entire valley and serves as a cover for the social areas of the house. From the entrance, one can explore the rooftop, which offers a spacious outdoor seating area, or descend to the private living quarters, sheltered from public view and the elements.
Quinta da Corvina House

When we first saw this plot, the stunning view of the green hill on the other side of the valley captured our attention. We believed that creating a strong connection with this natural backdrop should be the guiding principle for this project, influencing how the house is designed and how it integrates with the land. In order to seamlessly blend with the terrain, we aimed to leverage the steep topography and devise a solution that is both technically and financially efficient, while promoting a closer relationship between the interior of the house and the surrounding outdoor spaces.
