Miguens apartament

The challenge was launched for the renovation of the apartment’s social area, namely the entrance hall, living room, and kitchen. It was necessary, in the first phase, to learn the qualities and characteristics of the new space, in order to define the most appropriate solution for the new way of living in this apartment – greater spaciousness and modernity. The concept went through the definition of a layout that optimized the existing area, creating an open space whose spatial delimitation of the areas was apprehended by the spatial volume – for this, we manipulated the different levels of the ceiling through the use of false ceiling and used different lighting for each area – thus creating personalized environments.

The proposed solution seeks to take advantage of an entrance hall that acts as an antechamber for the social area of the house – living room and kitchen which now start to communicate directly with each other – in addition to maintaining clear circulation and hierarchy of spaces. In this way, it is proposed to demolish the wall between the entrance hall and the kitchen, and between the kitchen and the living room. In the location of the wall between the entrance hall and the living room, we propose the creation of a support cabinet because, in addition to providing some privacy to the social area, it provides the apartment with extra storage, which next to the entrance becomes very practical.
We tried to continue the image of the initial remodeling, which was the target of the private area of the apartment, thus betting on the continuity of the vinyl flooring, smooth walls, and the use of white in the walls, doors, and carpentry, complemented with the gray color in some finer points. In addition to clarifying the definition of spaces, we sought to provide the apartment with an image of glamor, elegance, and modernity.
In the hall, it is proposed to remove the existing ceramic and create a lighting tract in the cabinet area in front of the entrance. The wall in the entrance door area will be lined with plasterboard, to align with the wall that comes from the kitchen, thus avoiding unsightly bumps and showing certain spatial linearity. The kitchen space is spatially defined by the modeling of the height and the use of a gray ceramic tile on the floor. This shade extends to a part of the kitchen furniture. Since storage is a constant concern when remodeling small spaces, kitchen furniture with an efficient layout is proposed, making the most of the existing space, but also privileging countertop space and natural light.
The dining area becomes a space for connection and transition between the kitchen and living room space, whose pendant lighting helps to spatially demarcate this area from the rest of the spaces.
In the living space, it is proposed to place a mirror on the back wall, to offer depth and visual breadth to the space. This is one of the gestures that have the most impact on the apartment and helps to provide the room with a dimension that would not otherwise be possible. In order to give some prominence to the television back wall, we took advantage of the lighting molding over this area by proposing the application of a vinyl wallpaper with a linear pattern in gray relief.
The proposal seeks to give answers to the transmitted intentions, but we also tried to create an identity specific to the space, relating the formal and graphic options with its programmatic content, striving to create a welcoming, sophisticated, but above all, contemporary space.
