The approach to this rehabilitation was centred around preserving its most significant architectural elements by highlighting structural components that were left exposed, emphasizing the memory of the original structure while reconfiguring the space around them.
The incorporation of the original chimneys, wooden structure, and Lioz stone sinks contrasts with the purity of the other surfaces, creating a harmonious feeling of warmth and balance.
By recovering the original limits of the house and demolishing the bathroom that had been added later, we were able to reimagine the outdoor space, allowing more natural light to enter the interior of the apartment.
The house layout is divided into two living units: the lower one, within the volume of the existing house, and the upper one, a contemporary expansion that opens to the street with a minimalist balcony guard. The old and the new are also differentiated by switching the façade materials while maintaining a similar colour tone. Materials and colours were used to bridge the exterior and interior styles by applying salmon and green colors as well as hydraulic tiles, artisanal ceramics, and Lioz stone to both.
